Kenneth (Ken) lives in one of Mosaic’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes in Perth. He recently achieved a personal milestone. For the first time since moving into Mosaic’s SIL home in 2017, Ken embarked on a trip out of town.
With the support of Mosaic’s team, Ken travelled to Busselton in the stunning south-west region of Western Australia, a destination known for its pristine beaches, iconic jetty, and relaxed coastal vibe. The trip was an opportunity for Ken to reconnect with his love for adventure and experience the freedom of exploring new places.
A long-awaited adventure
Ken was thrilled about his trip, eagerly anticipating the drive and the change of surroundings. Sharing what he was most excited about, Ken said, “Having a holiday away from the house, going for a big drive, and looking at the scenery.”
Exploring Busselton
Ken’s excitement extended to the activities he planned to enjoy in Busselton.
“I was looking forward to seeing the ocean and fish, and visiting the lighthouse,” he said. These simple joys highlight how accessible travel can make a big difference for people with disability.
From picture-perfect beaches to the iconic Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, Ken soaked up every moment. “Seeing the ocean and different scenery was what I enjoyed most,” he said.
Support that made it possible
Behind Ken’s successful trip was Mosaic’s dedicated team, who ensured everything was planned and stress-free.
“The staff assisted with booking and planning, helping me save money for the accommodation, food, and activities I wanted to do, and organising a staff member to accompany me whose company I enjoyed,” he said.
Mosaic support worker David (Dave) Donnelly joined Ken on the trip. “Having one-to-one support meant I could really enjoy the activities.”
Mosaic’s team works with SIL residents to help build essential life skills and support their personal goals, so each resident can live as independently as possible. Just like it does for Ken.
Ken’s family also expressed their gratitude.
Dave was awesome and made the very best of the time they had in Busselton. Ken had an amazing time. We would like to thank Dave for being Ken’s buddy those two days. He’s very dedicated to his clients. Great work, Dave!”

What’s next?
Ken’s fun-filled trip to Busselton has sparked his interest in exploring more destinations. “Coral Bay is next on my bucket list for some fishing, just like I did with my dad,” Ken shared.
Explore your independent life with reliable support
Ken’s journey to Busselton is an example of how the right support can help people with disability enjoy new experiences and adventures.
Mosaic Community Care is a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider in Perth WA. It supports people with disability through a range of services, including Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes that offer a safe and inclusive living environment.
Kenneth’s trip shows how services like Supported Independent Living and Community Access and Support can help people with disability achieve their goals and connect with their community.
