Mosaic Community Care is proud to celebrate the success of its staff in this year’s Steptember Challenge, a national initiative that raises awareness and funds for cerebral palsy. With teams stepping up across the organisation, Mosaic not only exceeded its fundraising target but also fostered a strong spirit of inclusion, wellbeing, and teamwork.

Steptember, run by Cerebral Palsy Alliance, encourages participants to walk 10,000 steps a day for 30 days while raising funds to support children and adults living with cerebral palsy.

Cerebral palsy affects movement and posture and is the most common physical disability in childhood. In Australia, a child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy every 20 hours, and early intervention is key to improving long-term outcomes.

At Mosaic, the Steptember challenge was embraced with enthusiasm. Staff across the main head office in Jandakot along with Home & Community Leaders formed a total of 17 teams, tracked their steps, and raised funds, all while promoting awareness of cerebral palsy and the importance of inclusive support.

The team ‘Step Sisters’, including team members Sophie, Marie-Claire, Edha, and Linh, took out the top spot with an incredible 1,558,650 steps!

“We’re so proud of the Step Sisters and everyone who took part,” said Surekha Gomez, General Manager, People & Culture at Mosaic Community Care. “Steptember gave our teams a chance to move more, connect with each other, and support a cause that’s close to our hearts. It’s a great example of how small daily actions can lead to big impact.”

While fundraising was optional, Mosaic set a modest goal of $1,000. With the generosity of staff, families, and supporters, the organisation raised a total of $1,361 with the highest contribution from the team at Mosaic’s Supported Independent Living home team in Baldivis.

We’re blown away by the commitment and generosity of our teams. Steptember is about more than steps. It’s about standing up for inclusion, raising awareness, and supporting people with cerebral palsy to live their best lives. We’re proud to be a part of that.

Funds raised through Steptember go directly to programs that support early diagnosis, therapy, and assistive technology. These resources are vital in the first 1,000 days of life, when early intervention can make a lasting difference.

Mosaic’s participation in Steptember reflects its broader commitment to inclusion, health, and community engagement. As a provider of disability support services, Mosaic works every day to empower people with disability through supported living, positive behaviour support, NDIS support coordination, and community participation.

“Steptember fits naturally with our values,” Surekha added. “It’s about movement, connection, and purpose: things we promote not just during September, but all year round.”

The challenge boosted staff wellbeing, with many reporting improved energy, motivation, and camaraderie. From walking meetings to weekend hikes, teams found creative ways to reach their goals and support each other.

As the final steps are counted and donations tallied, Mosaic celebrates not just the numbers, but the impact. Every step walked, every dollar raised, and every conversation sparked contributes to a more inclusive future for people with cerebral palsy.

“Steptember has shown us what’s possible when we come together with purpose,” Rob concluded. “Thank you to everyone who stepped up, you’ve made a real difference.”
