Mosaic to offer Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), starting in Port Kennedy
Mosaic Community Care has announced a strategic partnership with Ability Housing to deliver Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) to West Australians with disability. This collaboration marks a major expansion of Mosaic’s service offering, providing greater choice and accessibility for current and prospective clients seeking supported, purpose-built living environments.
SDA is a category of housing funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for participants with extreme functional impact or very high support needs. These homes are designed with accessible features that enable residents to live more independently while receiving the support they need in a safe and comfortable environment.
Through this partnership, Mosaic will integrate its person-centred support services with Ability Housing’s expertise in developing high-quality, accessible housing. The result is a seamless experience for NDIS participants looking for both a home and the support to thrive within it.
Mosaic Community Care CEO Rob Wilton said, “This partnership is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating homes where people with disability can live with dignity, independence, and choice. By working with Ability Housing, we’re ensuring that our clients have access to contemporary, accessible housing that meets their individual needs and aspirations.”
Ability Housing, a not-for-profit housing provider specialising in SDA, brings a strong track record of delivering innovative housing solutions that align with the NDIS’ SDA Design Standards. Their properties are tailored to meet the diverse needs of residents, with design categories ranging from Improved Liveability to Robust.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Mosaic, whose values and commitment to person-centred care align closely with our own. Together, we’re building communities where people with disability can feel safe, supported, and empowered,” said Ability Housing’s Managing Director, Astrid Timmers.
The partnership will initially focus on SDA developments in Port Kennedy, with plans to expand into the broader Perth metropolitan region. Mosaic will provide on-the-ground support coordination, daily living assistance, and community access services, while Ability Housing will manage the development and tenancy of the SDA properties.
Mosaic’s General Manager Operations Zak Brearley said, “From an operational standpoint, this partnership allows us to integrate our support services with high-quality housing in a way that’s scalable and sustainable. It’s a model that reflects our commitment to innovation and excellence in service delivery.”
SDA funding is included in a participant’s plan when they meet specific eligibility criteria, and participants contribute a reasonable rent while the NDIS covers the cost of the specialised housing.
For people with disability and families navigating the complexities of disability support and housing, this partnership offers a streamlined, holistic solution by combining quality accommodation with trusted, local support.
Rob adds, “This partnership is a key step in Mosaic’s strategic vision to expand inclusive housing options and enhance community-based supports across WA.”
